Russian govt submits bills on COVID-free QR codes to parliament

MOSCOW, Nov 12 (PRIME) -- The government has submitted bills on the use of QR codes, proving the absence of COVID-19, in Russia to the State Duma, the parliament’s lower house, the government said on Friday in a statement.

“The government filed to the State Duma the bills on the use of QR codes in public places and on certain types of transport…The suggested decisions are an urgent measure amid the grave situation with the coronavirus infection,” the statement read.

The regional authorities will decide on the QR codes and a list of facilities where they will be needed.

Passengers will need QR codes about vaccination, medial exemption, or proof of recovery from the coronavirus disease for inter-city and international trips. Equipped with such a code, citizens will be able to visit mass events, cultural institutions, cafes, restaurants, and stores.

The measures are to be valid till June 1, 2022.
